More about our guests:

– National Novel Writing Month
NaNoWriMo is an annual challenge to write 50,000 words in 30 days. It takes place each November with participants around the world. The focus is quantity over quality (that’s for the editing stage!) and seeks to encourage people to tell the story that is inside them. Local municipal liaisons (MLs) provide support and run events to help people meet their goal. Cassandra is a long time participant of over a decade and this is her second year as the Edmonton Region ML.

– Susan MacGregor
My debut novel, ‘The Tattooed Witch’ (Five Rivers Publishing) was released in July, 2013 and was short-listed for a 2014 Aurora Award. The second book in the trilogy, ‘The Tattooed Seer’, was released in August, 2014, also through Five Rivers. ‘The Tattooed Queen’ the final book in the series, was released December 1st, 2016. I’ve also been an editor with On Spec magazine for 20+ years, although I haven’t edited with them for the last few, choosing instead to focus on my writing

Common themes in the trilogy include tattoo magic, gypsies, flamenco, the Spanish Inquisition, and psychic abilities. All three books are historical fantasies (with paranormal and romantic leanings) set in an alternate medieval Spain during her colonial expansion into the New World. Currently, I am working on a new Historical Fantasy series set in England during its Golden Age (the Edwardian Period, 1901-1914). Think witches in a small town who don’t want to be discovered by the British government, an unfortunate accident involving a motorcar, and a nosy detective arriving from Scotland Yard, bent on discovering all of their secrets. There might also be an inter-dimensional war involving Faerie combatants, and old dragons who should stay dead but don’t. A bit much for my poor protagonist to deal with. I’m having a lot of fun writing it. Stay tuned. 🙂

– Taryn Leigh Taylor
She likes dinosaurs, bridges, and space, both personal and of the final frontier variety. She shamelessly indulges in cliches, most notably her Starbucks addiction (grande-six-pump-whole-milk-no-water chai tea latte, aka: the usual), her shoe hoard (I can stop anytime I…ooh! These are pretty!), and her penchant for falling in lust with fictional men with great abs (yum!) Her first book, Kiss and Makeup, was shortlisted for the Kobo Emerging Writer prize.
